UN Department of Public Information and “Bibliobus” of National Library Distribute UN Information in Yerevan

On October 27th 2011, within the framework of the celebrations of 66th anniversary of the UN and UN Week in Armenia, UN Department of Public Information and the Armenian National Library’s “Bibliobus” visited five universities in Yerevan distributing to students and university libraries UN publications.

The publications were donated by the UN Agencies, Funds and Programmes which are present in Armenia.  More than 1000 students of the Brusov State Linguistic University, Yerevan State University, French University, European Regional Academy and American University of Armenia had an opportunity to talk to UN officials and pick up their copy of UN publication.

Armineh Haladjian, UNDPI Information Officer, said, “We distributed today some 5,000 UN publications in Armenian, English and Russian and briefed students on UN values and its work in Armenia.  These publications will be useful for those who want to learn more on children’s rights, women’s rights, and human rights as well as on economic, developmental, health, environmental, agricultural, food, labour and other issues”.

Hasmik Barhuyan, student of the Yerevan State University said, “It is very important to be aware of the current developments and of what is going on around us and in the world in general. The UN publications are giving that opportunity to us”.

UN Department of Public Information in Armenia cooperates with the National Library from 1996, when the National Library hosted second “UN Depository Library”.  The first UN Depository Library is located is on the premises of the Yerevan State University Library.
