Today the government, law enforcement, civil society and international community representatives discussed the issues of patents, copyright, trademarks and designs during the round table discussion held at the UN Office.
The event was organized by the UN Department of Public Information (UNDPI) jointly with the “Armauthor” NGO. It was dedicated to the World Book and Copyright (April 23), and World Intellectual Property days (April 26).

Today a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the premises of the UN Office in Armenia that will provide new opportunities to develop social housing in Armenia.
The MoU was signed by the Chairman of the Trustee Council of the National Social Housing Association (ASBA), Secretary of the RoA National Security Council Arthur Baghdasaryan, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia Dafina Gercheva and the representative of the “Dutch International Guarantees for Housing” Foundation Mark van Wees.
More than 350 trees were planted jointly by the UN, Government officials, Ambassadors, representative of the International Community at a tree planting event organized by the UN Department of Public Information, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the non-governmental organization “Armenia Tree Project”, the Avan administrative district of Yerevan and the Armenian Rescue Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Combat Antimicrobial Resistance
Since 1950, World Health Day is celebrated every year on 7 April to mark the foundation of World Health Organization in 1948. Each year the Organization selects a theme, which reflects a priority area of current concern for WHO. The theme selected for the World Health Day 2011 is “Antimicrobial Resistance” and the slogan of the Day is “Combat Drug Resistance. Balanced Use is the best medicine. No action today, no cure tomorrow.”
The UN Office in Armenia together with the United Nations offices around the world are flying the UN flag at half mast today (Wednesday, April 6, 2011), as a symbol of support for the bereaved in this time of sorrow.

Today, UNFPA Armenia officially presented the results of the sociological study on “Gender Dimension of Civic and Political Participation in Armenia” conducted within the framework of UNFPA “Combating Gender-Based Violence in the South Caucasus” project by the ««Caucasus» Sociological Research Center» NGO.

Today, the first donor coordination meeting in 2011 took place, co-chaired by the RoA Ministry of Economy and the UN Office in Armenia.

The UN Office in Armenia urges the Armenians to join people of the planet and to turn off non-essential lights on Saturday night, 26 March from 20:30-21:30 to observe Earth Hour.
Turning off the lights for an hour will make a difference and will bring a positive change towards environmental protection. Hundreds of millions of people in 128 countries participated in the event last year, making it one of the largest public awareness-raising campaigns in the world.

On March 17, 2011, USAID Armenia Mission Director Jatinder Cheema, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia Dafina Gercheva, and Director of the Eco-Engineering company Harutyun Petrosyan launched a joint plastic recycling program in Armenia. U.S. Ambassador Marie L. Yovanovitch, representatives of the UN, USAID, and the media attended the ceremony.
